Richard George LaBonte, Sr.

Richard G. LaBonte, Sr., 78, of Ossineke passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at home with his loving family by his side. Dick was born April 3, 1944, in Alpena to the late George and Hazel (Hubert) LaBonte. He was a lifelong resident of the area living his entire life on family farmland where he worked the soil. Dick was actively involved with the Boy Scouts for 30 years and served as scout master. He was a member of the FFA, the Knights of Columbus, the Tip of the Mitt Antique Tractor Association of Onaway, Pioneer Power Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Club of West Branch, AuSable Valley Engine and Tractor Club, and a founding member of the Alcona Classic Tractor and Engine Club. He was the proud owner of a 1954 Ford NAA, and a 1944 John Deere A. Dick was always busy with something yet always found time for others. He loved his family time and the grandkids always enjoyed spending time with him. His selflessness, and huge heart will be dearly missed by many friends and family. Dick is survived by his 4 children, Richard LaBonte, Jr., Elizabeth (Michael Aurand), George LaBonte, Amanda (Joseph) McEwen, 7 grandchildren, Angelina (T.J.) Allen, Anthony (Angela) Gibbs, Megan (Chris) LaBonte, Melissa (Ashton) LaBonte, Brandon LaBonte, Heather McEwen, Justin McEwen, 3 step grandchildren, Passion (Larry) Bensett, Chazze Aurand, Kylee Aurand, 4 siblings, Judy (David) Lamay, Janet (Doyle) LaBonte, Cathy (Gary) McDonald, Diane (William) Nelson, and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Donna LaBonte, and his son, Joseph Robert. Dick is at McWilliams Funeral Home where visiting hours will be from 2pm – 8pm on Thursday, June 23, 2022, with a prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue Friday at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating. Interment will follow at St. Catherine Catholic Church Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to Friends of Thunderhead at PO Box 544, Alpena, MI 49707. The mass will be livestreamed on Dick’s tribute wall at mcwilliamsfh.com where online condolences can be registered as well.
