Esta Lou Maloney Obituary

Esta Lou McMillan Maloney, 80, of Wheeling, WV, went to be with her Lord with her sister, Roxie, holding her in her arms on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV.

 

She was born August 26, 1941, in Wheeling, WV, daughter of the late Clyde G. and Mildred Jones McMillan.

 

Esta was a 1959 graduate of Wheeling High School where she won the Girls Division Foul Shooting Contest the same year. She played many sports growing up. She worked as a secretary for the YMCA from 1959-1965 and was the assistant superintendent for the recreational department at the City of Wheeling from 1965-1970.

 

She started fencing in 1960 at the YMCA for 10 years, winning many competitive tournaments including WVU Open Fencing Championship and has fenced in KY, PA, NJ, OH & WV.

 

Esta also loved playing golf. She won the Women’s Club Golf Championship 34 out of 37 years, in a row, beginning in 1976 at Belmont Hills Country Club. She played for many years in the WV Women’s Golf Amateur, finishing in the top 16 eight different times in a field of 96 players. She also played 2 times in the Virginia/Carolina Women’s Golf Amateur Tournament.

 

She loved her dogs, her Lord, and the church. She was a member of BHCC, past member of North Street United Methodist Church where for many years she belonged to MYF, junior choir, youth choir and adult choir. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Wheeling, WV.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Maloney; fiancé, Bill L. Anderson; 3 brothers, Robert, Gene & Nelson McMillan; and sister, Ruth Ann Reinbeau.

 

She is survived by her loving sister, Roxie Derheimer of Wheeling, WV; 2 sisters-in-law, Carolyn McMillan of Waynesburg, PA & Betty McMillan of Laurel, MS; several nieces/nephews and great-nieces/nephews; and many dear & best friends including, Kevin Chenoweth, Linda Dowler, Bill & Barbara Clough, and Mike & Carol Hastings.

 

Friends will be received for a memorial visitation on Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 12:00 PM until the Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, 1232 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 with Reverend Jake Steele officiating.
