Larus attended Island School and helped with the family farm. In 1946 he went fishing at Ramsays Point and fished there for two seasons. In 1945 Larus met the love of his life, Margret Johnson of Riverton, Manitoba, and they were married on September 26, 1948. They built their first home on St. Peters St. in Arborg, In 1948 he worked at building the Pool Elevator, and in 1949 worked with K.O. Einarson at the Arborg Garage. In 1958 Larus and his cousin Leifur Fridfinnson partnered in a new business, Viking Motors. He later sold his half share in the business to Robert Fridfinnson and retired. During his time at the dealership, he won many awards. Larus and Margret built their second home on the corner of Spruce and Birch in 1964. Larus served as councillor in the first incorporated Village of Arborg in 1963-1965 and spent a number of years in town planning. He returned to council in 1980. He was re-elected to council from 1980-1983 and 1983-1986. He was a chairman of public works, member of the New Arena Board, The Arborg and District Museum Board, The Historical Society, The Eastern Interlake Planning District Board and was Deputy Mayor. Larus and Margret enjoyed gardening and spending time at the lake with family. Margret passed away suddenly in April of 1985 and soon after Larus retired as Mayor. Larus moved to Assisted Living in Arborg where he enjoyed the company of many friends. He also would join friends at Chicken Chef to discuss the daily happenings in and around Arborg. Dad loved poetry and music. His favourite poem was “Daffodills” and I understand that it was also a favourite of his brother Pall.

We love you Dad, Afi, Langafi and will enjoy the many happy memories you have given us. Rest peacefully until we meet again.

There will be a private family internment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arborg Community Cemetery in his memory.

The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Arborg Personal Care Home.
