FLORENCE EMILY BOVAT Obituary

WESTFIELD - Surrounded by her loving family, Florence Emily (Scotlis) Bovat joined her husband in eternal life on Sunday, June 19, 2022.  She was born on May 3, 1930, the daughter of Jacob and Nellie (Gliwski) Scotlis in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Florence (Flo) resided in Chicopee for 25 years, graduating from Chicopee High School in 1948; upon graduating, she worked as a clerk typist and receptionist for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Unemployment Office before moving to Westfield in 1955 to marry her husband, Richard Bovat, Jr. They remained in Westfield, raising their family for the next 46 years, until Richard’s death in 2001.

Flo enjoyed many wonderful years traveling with her husband during their retirement. Weekends were full of dining, dancing, playing cards or just dropping by to visit their numerous in-laws, family, and friends often with all their children in tow. Flo discovered the love of plays, traveling by bus to New York City, upper state New York or the local theatres.

Many years were spent camping in tents with all 6 children: the source of many stories of trips to the beach in Maine. Flo loved the shore and continued to go yearly with her husband, sitting in their chairs listening to the entertainment at Hampton Beach or just enjoying each other’s company watching the world go by, loving the hustle and bustle of the strip. Many years were full of summer cookouts at Clear Falls, campfires in the evening, and holiday gatherings with the family.

Flo took great pride in her beautiful indoor plants, living a healthy lifestyle carefully planning a nutritious, well-balanced diet, and walking daily to pick up her newspaper or her groceries. She loved reading, poetry, listening to fine music, and cherished her weekly lunch date with her sister Jane. Being an avid fan of her home team, summertime was filled with the sound of the Red Sox on TV or her transistor radio.

Flo was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish for all her years in Westfield. She is pre-deceased by her 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with her six loving children: Daniel Bovat and wife, Deborah; David Bovat and wife, Nancy; Gerald Bovat and wife, Christine; Diane Morris and husband, Michael; Eileen Stucenski and partner, Daniel Trench; Janet Helliwell and husband, Lee all of Westfield. She never forgot any of her 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildrens’ birthdays, always getting that card out on time.
