Susan A. Hoyer

Susan A. Hoyer, 81, Park Rapids, MN passed peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Park Rapids. Susan was born October 20, 1940 to William and Marjorie (Breyfogle) Foster in Garden City, Kansas where she grew up. In her last year of high school she moved to Steamboat Springs, CO and graduated in 1958. She went on to attend the University of Colorado. In 1959 she married Marion “Tabb” Harding Jr. in Garden City, KS. They resided in Denver, CO. She was a stay-at-home mother to their 4 children. They later divorced. On February 15, 1969 she was united in marriage to Hermann “Butch” Hoyer in Denver, CO. They lived in SE Colorado where they farmed and raised livestock, then moved to Nevis, MN around 1972 to farm and raise sheep and horses. They also lived in Wyoming and South Dakota. She had many passions and desired to do the best she could. She enjoyed downhill skiing on the mountains of Colorado, watching birds and wildlife. She enjoyed watching cooking shows while cooking in her kitchen. She was an avid gardener with a green thumb. You could say she had a natural talent for growing plants. She loved to make jams and jellies, so she knew all the good spots to go picking. She enjoyed sewing, reading and Bible study, and attended New Life Church in Park Rapids. She was recognized for her service in Rodeo Ministry alongside her husband Butch. She ministered to young women in jail when living in South Dakota. She was a person devoted to her faith, family, and friends. Susan is survived by five children, Pamela Harding of Nevis, MN, Kathleen (Tom) Gilbertson of Byron, MN, William “Mike” (Traci) Harding of Alexandria, MN, Patrick Harding of Park Rapids, MN, Thomas “Beecher” (Jamie) Hoyer of Menahga, MN; four siblings, Michael (Mary) Foster of Oregon, David Foster of Garden City, Patricia (Jeff) Whithem of Garden City, Jeannine (Dan) Herpolshiemer of Mulvane, KS; 17 grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Clark, Cassidy, Tracy, Heather, Joshua, Will, Annie, Hillary, Nicholas, Charity, Jordan, Marcus, Gabriel, Jakob, and Kaden; and 15 great grandchildren.
