Obituary

Graveside service for George T. Parker, 93, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:00am on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Shady Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Parker passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022 in Nacogdoches.  He was born on May 22, 1929.

George T. Parker was born and raised in the Melrose community.  He was the son of Arthur C. and Bama Avery Parker.  George was in Houston when he met a beautiful young woman and fell in love.  He and Alice were married on October 23, 1948 and spent a wonderful 73 years together.  George lost his best friend in March of this year and missed her each day until his passing.  Together, they raised their family and was so very proud of the lives their children led.  Becky, Melba, Robert and Donald made their lives complete, and when grandchildren came into their lives, they loved them endlessly and without boundaries.   George’s family was of utmost importance to him and he was happiest when surrounded by the love and laughter generated by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George worked for and retired from Houston Lighting & Power.  He spent a lifetime building for the future he and Alice longed for.  They each loved gardening and would share their abundance of vegetables each year with their family and closest friends.  George and Alice also loved to travel with friends and find quaint little places to enjoy a meal.  His love of family and Christ, of which were both taught to his children, will forever be the memories and legacy that will carry on through the years.  His giving spirit and hard-working ethics were what defined both he and Alice and will forever be remembered by all who were lucky enough to be part of their lives.

George is survived by his children, Becky Russ & husband, Hugh of Nacogdoches, Melba Wolfe & husband, Wayne of Houston, Robert Parker & wife Kathy of Tomball and Donald Parker of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Michelle Russ, Jenni McDonald, Donny Parker, Christi Saar, Cassi Beasley, Catrina Whitton, Meaghan Parker, Kaillyn Parker, Leland Parker, Andrew Parker and Zachary Sherrill; great grandchildren, Mikah Kressin, Alice Ann Kressin, Chloe Russ, Chris McDonald, Isabella McDonald, Stacey Parker, Brianna Saar, Luke Saar, James Whitton, Justus Whitton and Kasley Whitton.

He is preceded in death by his precious wife, Alice Parker; parents, Bama Melissa and Arthur Parker; brothers, Ernest Parker and Herman Parker; sisters, Laura Parker, Lois Angus, Helen Walls, Verna Baker and Marie Chalker.
