Steve Smith

Steve Smith was born in Napa, California in the 60’s. He was the third child of Elena and Leon Smith. He moved to Tehachapi, CA when he was 12 years old. Steve went to Jacobsen Junior High and Tehachapi High School. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Argentina in the early 80’s. Upon returning from his mission, he moved to Richmond Virginia and attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Steve also attended both BYU, Utah and Hawaii. While at the Hawaii campus he made many lifelong friends/ohana. He enjoyed many reunions with his BYU Hawaii group, especially at Lake Powell.  In 1990, he finished his Juris Doctorate in Utah. After passing his bar exam,  he moved to the Sacramento, CA area.

Steve always loved the outdoors. On weekends and vacations, Steve could be found waterskiing, snow skiing, backpacking, hiking, and bike riding. He loved spending time with his family and friends in the great outdoors.

After several years of friendship and waiting patiently, he married his love, Laura, in 2015 and gained two daughters, Abby and Maddie. He was a dedicated husband and father. He lived life to its fullest, even after his cancer diagnosis. He continued to ride his mountain bike on Saturdays until about a month before his death and continued working until the last week of his life. He served in his church in various capacities. Helping the youth was what he loved the most! He served as 2nd counselor of the Clayton Valley 3rd Ward, Walnut Creek Stake until succumbing to the effects  of pancreatic cancer. He was a dedicated servant of our Lord and Savior. He loved and served others, especially his family. He was an example to us all.
He loved music and games of strategy. He had several hobbies— geocaching, baking, dehydrating food, ceramics, weaving paracord, video games and reading.
Steve had many nicknames—Randy, Esteban, Stevo, Appledog, Superman.
As a small child, “Randy” was given a cape. He liked to play Superman and run through the house with his cape. His love of Superman continued throughout his life.
Steve is survived by his wife, Laura, daughters-Abby and Maddie Chase, Elena Quiroz (mom), siblings, Leon Smith Jr. (Wilma), Cathy Lenker (Bob), Trish Cooley (Jim), James Smith (Brenda) as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews/ nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial will be held Saturday July 16th at 11am, with a special family meeting at 10am. Located at 1360 Alberta Way, Concord at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a luncheon to follow at 1:00pm for family.
