Joan M. Curtis Obituary

Joan Marie Curtis, 87, of Susquehanna Township, passed away Tuesday June 14, 2022 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. Born September 24, 1934, in Gratz, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Martha (Bixler) Koppenhaver. Joan possessed a personality that endeared her to people and assisted her in creating a successful career in retail sales. Initially managing a Bakery department for Giant, Joan later worked in jewelry sales at Peeble’s Department Store until she became the co-owner of a Cookie Bouquet franchise. She retired from Claire’s Boutique. Joan made her home in Maryland for nearly 40 years before moving back to the Harrisburg area in 1999 to be closer to her family. A member of the Red Hat Society, Joan found contentment in reading and was an avid baseball fan – cheering on the Orioles, Phillies and Nationals. Over the past several years, she enjoyed life at Pheasant Hill Estates where she was able to socialize with friends and neighbors, and participate in all of the community activities. Joan is survived by her sons, Larry (Linda) Witmer of Harrisburg and Scott (Dawne) Witmer of The Outer Banks, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Sabin) Carroll, Jessica Graves, Joshua Witmer and Zachary Witmer; great grandchildren, Dylan Gragg, Olivia Carroll, Aliyah Graves and Charlie Rose Witmer; her brother, Clair (Bernice) Koppenhaver and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ann Lindemon; sister, Dorothy Wiest; and brothers, Robert Koppenhaver and Leroy Koppenhaver. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday June 24, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon in the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Jennifer Toburen, officiating. Inurnment in the Gratz Union Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vickie’s Angel Foundation, 511 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070 or at vickiesangelfoundation.org.
