Frank "Bill" William Culver
Frank William Culver passed away peacefully at home in East Lansing, Michigan on June 14, 2022 surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born February 11, 1929 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Marshall Culver and Lucille (Gohde) Culver. He had three sisters, Dorothy Jean (Jim) Hayes, Patricia Ann (Keith) Hunter, Joan Marcia (Ruben) Fischer, and his black Lab, Prince. He was beloved Uncle Bill/Bill to family and close friends. Bill was raised in Albert Lea until the age of 12, when his family moved to Detroit, Michigan. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1945. In 1946 he joined the Army and served in Korea during a peace keeping mission. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He then went to school and became a Master Electrician. He married Ruth Irene Culver on September 30, 1950. They had three children, Deborah Ann (Russell) Martin, David William (Kim) Culver, and Lori Lynn Muir. Bill was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Jacob Martin, Erin (Nate) Davis, Casey Muir, Cortney Muir, Emily (Sean) Perry, Brittany Culver and Natalie (Jacob) Moore, and 5 great-grandchildren, William, Cole, Blake, Ella, and Easton. He was also blessed with 25 beloved nieces and nephews. Bill began his storied career in 1950 as a Master Electrician with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. He later became union Vice President for Local 80 of the SEIU (Service Employees International Union), AFL-CIO. He was a skilled negotiator and organizer and founding member of THAW. In 1985 he began working for the AFL-CIO in Community Services. In 1988 he began working for the American Red Cross. During this time, he worked on many disaster relief efforts throughout the country and he became a courier of bone marrow throughout the world. Bill retired in 2003 after 53 years of dedicated service to his union and community. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. He was outgoing, fun, kind hearted, caring, and always ready for a family get together. He loved his granddogs Chance, Leia, Louis and Curry. They were by his side until the end. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Services celebrating Bill's life will be held at a later date.February 11, 1929 - June 14, 202202/11/192906/14/2022
