James Fletcher Smith

Fletcher Smith, 89, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on June 14, 2022. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Hillside Christian Church Chapel. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Fletcher Smith was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on May 1, 1933. He moved to Amarillo in June 1941 with his mother, sister and twin brother. He graduated from Amarillo High in 1952…..Once a Sandie Always a Sandie! He attended Amarillo College and then was drafted into the US Army in June of 1953. He worked for Diamond Shamrock Oil & Gas for 37 years. Fletcher and Charlotte were married for 40 years. He loved his children and grandchildren. He volunteered at BSA Hospital and Sharing Hope Ministry. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church, where he was involved with the Faith Builders class. He loved working with kids and enjoyed being a “round-up guy” for Kids Inc. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Charlotte, his sons, Mike and wife Cathy, Travis, Miles and wife Donna, Dr. Mark White and wife Karen, and Jo Ann Glover, his children’s mother. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Lindley Smith and his sister, Virginia Posey. He has eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on-the-way. Fletcher will be missed by Sugar, his beloved little Shih Tzu.
