<p>Ashley, ND-Funeral Service for Elsie LeVorn Delories Bender Sackmann, 96, of Ashley will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. Rev. Deb Cantrell will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Elsie&rsquo;s obituary.</p> <p>Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.</p> <p>Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.</p> <p>Elsie died June 15, 2022, at Ashley Nursing Home.</p> <p>Elsie, daughter of Philip and Rosa (Stock) Bender, was born on September 12, 1925, in Ashley, ND. She attended elementary school in Ashley and graduated from Wishek High School in the Class of 1943. She thereafter completed an eighteen-month course in business at Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, where she met her future husband, Lorenz.</p> <p>Elsie and Lorenz were united in marriage on November 11, 1945, in her parents&rsquo; home in Fargo, ND. They lived in Fargo where she worked for Mutual Life Insurance and Lorenz worked for a J.I. Case branch office until December 1949. The couple then moved to Ashley where Lorenz and his father, Martin Sackmann, opened a J.I. Case Implement business known as Sackmann Sales and Service, which Lorenz continued to run until his retirement in September 1977.</p> <p>Elsie worked for McIntosh County from 1950 to 1973, first as Deputy County Treasurer and then as Deputy County Auditor and Tax Director. She also served as organist at Zion Lutheran Church from 1957 to 1971 and again for all German services beginning in 1978, including more than 500 funerals. Fondly known as &ldquo;Team Sackmann,&rdquo; Elsie and Lorenz often sang together in German at local funerals of all denominations and at the Ashley Nursing Home. Even after entering the nursing home in August 2017, they continued to lead residents in German worship and musical events.</p> <p>Following Lorenz&rsquo;s death in April 2019, Elsie continued to reside at Ashley Nursing Home until she passed peacefully.</p> <p>Elsie is survived by her only child and son-in-law, Peggy and Wayne Struble of Phoenix, AZ.</p> <p>Preceding Elsie in death were her parents, her only sister Mildred (Bender) Stenslie, and Lorenz, her husband of 73 years.</p> <p>Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.</p>
