Jerry Yee, M.D.

Jerry Yee-loving and devoted husband, best friend to his siblings and doting uncle. Jerry Yee cherished his family, supported many educational and charitable organizations, at the same time having a lifelong love affair with Medicine and Nephrology in particular. Throughout his life his colleagues, friends and family benefited from his incredible intellect, keen wit and sense of humor, but most importantly, his patients experienced the compassion he felt for them. Jerry lived and practiced the Hippocratic Oath which he took when he graduated from medical school. Jerry Yee was born on August 5, 1959 in Pittsburgh, PA to Mon and Kim Yee. He graduated from North Hills High School and was valedictorian in a class of 850. He was admitted to the Penn State and Thomas Jefferson University accelerated medical program. He graduated with honors two months short of his 23d birthday. He served his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and later at the United States Military Academy (West Point). It was at West Point that he met the love of his life, Virginia Romano. During his 7-years of military service, Jerry achieved the rank of Major and was awarded many medals to include the Army Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf cluster. The most important part of Jerry&rsquo;s life was his family. He was a constant presence at Virginia&rsquo;s side for 30-years. Jerry was the younger brother to John (Susana) Yee of Beaver, PA and June (Peter) Felix of London, England. He was the uncle to Christine (Emjay) Tan of Melbourne, Australia, Stephanie (Don) Galzarano of Chicago, Max Felix of San Francisco and Timothy (Kristin) Yee of Silver Spring, Maryland. Jerry was a great-uncle to Joey, Rohan, Jonathan, Cameron Tan, Vivienne, Alexander, Matteo Galzarano and Cecelia and Carter Yee. Jerry was the Division Head of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was also the Medical Director at Greenfield Health System. Jerry was a Fellow at the National Kidney Foundation, American Society of Nephrology and the Royal College of Physicians (London). He was conferred the Mastership of the American College of Physicians. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease and served on the editorial board of numerous scientific journals. Jerry had published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and has held multiple leadership positions regionally, nationally and internationally. He has received numerous awards to include the Donald W Seldin presented by the National Kidney Foundation for clinical excellence. Jerry&rsquo;s dedication and the legacy of his work is evident in the mentorship of many young nephrologists who have gone on to become leaders in their field. Jerry was passionate in his support of numerous organizations. He established a scholarship for students from his high school who chose to study STEM in college. Family will receive friends at A. J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak, MI 48073 Friday, June 17, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 PM, and memorial service on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The funeral service will also be livestreamed, and will be live about 10 minutes prior to the start of the service and can be found under the "Tribute Wall" tab above. Interment will be at the National Cemetery at the United States Military Academy (West Point).
