David Edward Guloien, 81, died Friday, June 10, 2022, at Penn Highlands Brookville, Brookville, Pennsylvania after a lengthy struggle with dementia.  He was born on November 14, 1940, in Willmar, Minnesota to Dr. Hansel and Luverne Roche Guloien.  Dave graduated from Dickinson High School in Dickinson, North Dakota and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.  After graduation, Dave worked in San Francisco, California where he met Sally Mitchell, whom he later married on January 28, 1967, in Emporium, Pennsylvania at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.  Prior to relocating to Emporium, Dave and Sally lived in San Francisco for 9 years.

After settling in Emporium, Dave became an active member of the community and worked as a State Farm agent for over 25 years.  He served as Senior Warden at Emmanuel Episcopal Church as well as a past President of Emporium Rotary where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.  Dave also held the position of president and treasurer of the Emporium Country Club, was a member of the Cameron County School Board, and served on the Board of Directors of the George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation and the Emporium Foundation.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing and watching golf, rooting for the 49’ers, traveling around the country, especially to his hometown in North Dakota, hiking, and a good martini. 

Dave was a devoted husband and loving father.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sally Mitchell Guloien of Emporium; daughter, Jeanmare Holjencin (Tom) of Charleston, South Carolina; son, Eirik Guloien (Brittany) of Sumter, South Carolina; granddaughters, Lucie, Amelia and Sally Holjencin and grandsons Kynkade and Beau Guloien; sisters, Karin Ehli (Jim) and Christine Zander (Ken) of Dickinson, North Dakota and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Edward Guloien Jr.; his sisters, Jean Guloien and Mary Guloien Davis.

Burial Service will take place on Friday, June 17 at 11 A.M. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 144 West Fourth Street in Emporium, officiated by Father Matthew Ryan.  There will be no visitation.  A private burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium, Pennsylvania following the service.
