Juliette James Craig Windsor, North Carolina Obituary

Juliette James Craig

Juliette James Craig was born on March 30, 1947 in Bertie County, NC to Willie and Mildred James. She transitioned to her eternal home on June 7, 2022 at Vidant Hospice, Greenville, NC. Juliette or “Ju” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Bertie County School System. At the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Lewis Craig, in October 1964. To this union one child, Deborah “Debbie,” was born in 1975. Ju always said that God blessed her to birth only one child, however she loved children and was supportive in raising and caring for many of her nieces and nephews. Ju dedicated her life to being a homemaker and lovingly cared for her husband and daughter. She was known for preparing large meals daily, up until Lewis’ demise in 2020. Ju continued to cook her large, delicious meals though not as often and always made extra to be ready to give a plate to anyone who may stop in. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite times of the year, and she was known to bake numerous pies and cakes to be enjoyed by all. Ju was a joy to be around and enjoyed talking and never met a stranger. Some of her favorite past times were listening to Lee Williams gospel classics, watching Lifetime movies, talking on the telephone with friends and family, and entertaining visitors at home. Ju loved perfumes and fragrance oils and was always so excited to be gifted a favorite fragrance or a piece of jewelry. Ju was a member of Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church where she met and enjoyed getting to know many people. Though she openly shared that she missed Lewis terribly after his passing, Ju made herself and others proud by continuing to maintain their home independently for almost two years. During this time, she ensured that the yard was well maintained and even had some home improvements completed. Though she expressed that she learned to live her life without her first and only true love, we rejoice in knowing that they are now reunited. Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter, Deborah Craig Gilliam “Debbie” of Raleigh, NC; nephews who she helped to raise, Arek James of Greenville, NC and Tremaine James of the home; one sister, Janice James Williams of Windsor, NC; one brother, Curtis James of Philadelphia, PA; brothers-in-law, Robert Craig and Leon Craig, both of Windsor, NC; special friends to include her elementary school friends, Katrina Ballance, Virginia Bond, and Minnie Wilson. She will also be remembered by numerous other relatives and friends. Ju was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, her parents, and three siblings, Alice Faye Kelley, Bobby Lewis James, and Earnestine Craig.
