Jerry was born in Lamesa, TX on November 29, 1951 to D.D. and Marie Smith. He was saved at 8 years old and dedicated his life to serving the Lord in ministry. He graduated from Baylor University in 1980 and soon after became Camp Manager at Plains Baptist Assembly. Later, he was the Executive Director at Latham Springs Baptist Camp and later at Big Country Baptist Assembly until he retired. His ministry was greatly influenced by his years as an RA state staffer and as a member of Texas Baptist Men.

His greatest joy was seeing people begin walking with the Lord, as well as boating, fishing, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Sarah Smith, as well as his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jan Smith; daughters, Shannan Knudsen and husband, Jay, Lisa Qourzal and husband, Amine; and several grandchildren. He will be missed by many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Baptist Camp Endowment Fund at Highland Advisors, P.O. Box 840350, Dallas, TX 75284.
