Gordon James Cavanagh

It is with much sadness that the family of Gordon James Cavanagh announce his passing. Gord left this earth early in the morning, on Thursday June 2, 2022 in the company of his loving wife, Joan.

Gord was born on March 12,1941 in Winnipeg where he was raised as an only child. It was there that he met the love of his life, Joan, and they were married November 30, 1962. Family quickly followed with two daughters born in Winnipeg. Gord was then transferred to Toronto and a son, and another daughter were added to the family. Gord then joined the Alcan group as a salesman and worked his way up to sales manager for the western provinces. This resulted in the family relocating to Calgary, which became their permanent home.

Gord and Joan travelled extensively and discovered paradise in the Makaha valley of Oahu, Hawaii, which became their six-month home for over the past fifteen years. Gord was an avid golfer, and until recently, could be found on most days during the season, at the Willow Park Golf and Country Club, where he was a member for 46 years. Gord was also a huge sports fan, actively supporting the Calgary Stampeders, there will be an empty seat in McMahon Stadium this season. He also was a Calgary Flames season ticket holder for many years. Gord also played hockey, curling, baseball, as well as golf, and ensured all his children learned how to play properly.

For Gord, family became the focus of his life, starting with encouraging his children, to mentoring his many grandchildren, and recently interacting with his great grandchildren. The highlight of the summer were the camping trips to Lake Koocanusa in BC. The laughs and love spent around campfires, story telling and extreme bocce are memorable.

Gord will be missed by all his family, wife Joan, daughters Brenda (Dave Durand), Allan (Sonia Cavanagh), Lorri (David Linder) Barb (Andy Robinson). He also will be very much missed by his granddaughters and grandsons, Samantha, Grace, Brooke, Matthew (Claire), Myles (Jessica), Drew (Sarah), Mike (Lindsay), and greatgrandchildren, Olivia, Riley, Sierra, Oliver, Hadlee, Jayden and Kian.

In accordance with Gord’s wishes, there will be no service. No flowers please, if friends wish to make a donation, then please contribute to the Canadian Cancer Foundation or any other charity of your choice.
