With very heavy hearts we announce that Hazel Harry passed away peacefully in her 90th year at the Belleville General Hospital on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Hazel was born in Elizabethville, Ontario on August 31, 1932, to Russell & Myrtle White.



Hazel is predeceased by her husband Doug and their son John. She is survived by her daughter Catherine (Ken) Bradley of Richmond, BC, and son Mark (Karen) Harry of Belleville. Hazel also leaves behind her two loving grandsons Trevor & Stephen Bradley and her adoring granddaughters, Emily, and Madeline Harry.



Hazel is survived by her siblings Evelyn White (Hamilton, ON), Marian Mingham (Lincoln, UK), and William/Bill White (Pat) of Belleville, along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Gerald (Doreen) Harry of Kingston, and sister-in-law Evelyn Hughes (Clarence). Hazel was predeceased by her sister, Muriel Yost and brother-in-law, Frank Harry (surviving wife Lois).



Hazel was proud of her agricultural roots and committed to service and the betterment of those in her community. In her younger years, Hazel was an active member of the 4H Community, both as a participating member and then as a leader, excelling and winning awards across many areas of agriculture, recognizing her for excellence. Hazel’s excellence and commitment to agriculture were evident through her selection as Dairy Princess of Hastings County in her younger years.



Hazel was also a member of the Junior Farmers community, which opened up many doors, including being a participant at an international conference in Chicago IL, which led to the introduction to her future husband, Douglas.



Hazel attended secretarial school in Oshawa and then worked at the Ministry of Agricultural in Brighton.



Hazel and her husband Doug, no stranger to hard work and excellence, built a successful family dairy business on their homestead farm. Later, when Doug decided to pursue a career in real estate, Hazel was instrumental in helping him to build W.D. Harry & Company and was directly involved in supporting him in the office. Hazel & Doug took great pride in that achievement after leaving the dairy farm and worked hard to make his business thrive.



Hazel’s home was the centre for family, and friends - old and new, celebrating milestones & key events, always served with an abundance of meals, warmth, and hospitality. She was known for her famous homemade rolls in particular.



A constant theme throughout Hazel’s life was her commitment to service work within her community. She was long-time member of the United Church Women’s (Johnstown and Westminster United), a committed volunteer with Adopt-a-Child through the Belleville Police Service, was a contributing member of 100+ Women Who Care, and an active member of the Probus Club where she shared in fellowship, friendship, and fun.



Hazel loved to journal and wrote with great panache - she was genuinely interested in people and their stories. She was known for her poems, often written to celebrate a friend or family member. During her residence at Quinte Gardens, Hazel was an active writer for The Grapevine, and she was proud to serve on the welcoming committee making sure new residents felt at home.



Hazel was filled with light and love and you couldn’t help but feel warmth in her presence.



A life well-lived is a legacy of joy & pride & pleasure. Hazel made our world a better place and has gone back home to the arms of God and also the eternal embrace of her husband Doug & son John.



Hazel’s family would like to thank the kind & committed staff of the Quinte Gardens, and the caring staff of Quinte 5 of the Belleville General Hospital.



Lastly but certainly not in the least, we wish to recognize & thank Dr. William (Bill) Bates for the decades of care and compassion he provided to Hazel. He held a very special place with Hazel and has been an incredible physician who also served this community in a very meaningful way.



In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel's honour to the Adopt-a-Child program sponsored by the Belleville Police Service would seem most fitting.



A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11 am, at Whites Cemetery, 498 Old Highway 2, Trenton, Ontario, followed by a reception (12 Noon - 2 pm) at the Steele Family Centre, 30 Moira St W, Belleville, ON where we can celebrate and remember Hazel’s life.
