Lytle G. Horting Jr. Obituary

Lytle G. Horting Jr., 94, of Camp Hill, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Lytle G. Horting Sr. and Elizabeth (Flemming) Horting, born on February 21, 1928 in Reading, Pennsylvania. Lytle graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University (1950). He began his career with American Casualty Insurance in Reading. Recently married, he transferred to the Washington D.C. area where he and his young wife started their family. While there, he began working for Commercial Union, earned his CPCU, and was soon promoted to be the Central PA branch manager. Lytle and his family settled in Highland Park, Lower Allen Township and happily remained there for over five decades. He retired from Commercial Union after a long, productive career. Lytle was a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, where he ushered religiously for decades. He was an avid model railroader and accumulated a large train collection throughout his life, including an elaborate outdoor trainyard he constructed. Although his work was challenging, he always put his family first and made time for them. Family vacations at the beach were frequent, and the family’s first (and last) camping trip through the New York Finger Lakes, Canada, and New England was both memorable and comical. He loved his wife unconditionally, and he was always there for his family, supportive with both his time and his words. He was a caring person and a great example of integrity and stability for his daughters. Surviving Lytle are his wife of 70 years, Shirley (Eckenroad) Horting; daughters, Marcia Horting (Marc Marzullo) of Laytonsville, MD and Elizabeth Ziesmer (Dareold) of Orlando, FL; and grandchildren, Monica Hale (Michael) of Orlando, FL and Bryon Adkins of Brooklyn, NY. He was preceded in death by a sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. A luncheon immediately follows mass in the church’s social hall and all are invited to join. Committal in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill is private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Lytle’s name to a worthy charity of your choice.
