ACCOKEEK, MD- Harry Allen Craighead, Sr., 91, formerly of York, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Charlestown Senior Community in Maryland. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Fitzgerald) Craighead. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 474 S. Pershing Ave. in York, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. The Reverend Dr. Aaron Willford, Jr. will be officiating at the service. The service will be webcast live and can be viewed by searching Harry’s obituary at HeffnerCare.com. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, in York with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting with the service. Mr. Craighead was born in Philadelphia on December 4, 1930, the son of the late Jesse W. and Mabel (Bishop) Craighead. He retired from the US Army after 24 years of service serving in the Korean War. He later worked as a corrections officer for the city of Philadelphia for 20 years and the retired from the US Postal Service. Mr. Craighead was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in York. He received the following accommodations and medals: Army Accommodation Medal, Army Occupation (Germany and Japan), Air Force Outstanding Accommodation, Korean Service Medal, with five bronze campaign stars, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and 50th Anniversary, Korean War Service. Mr. Craighead leaves six children, Arlene Patterson, Terri Eason, Harry Craighead, Jr., Darryl Craighead, Dernard Craighead, and Yolanda Johnson; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
