Marjorie Cuccaro Obituary

Marjorie Cuccaro, 74, of Scotch Plains, passed away peacefully on May 31. 2022 surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Margie, as she was known to her friends, was born on December 21, 1947.  The middle of three children, she spent her childhood in nearby Cranford and was a graduate of Cranford High School. After graduation, Margie worked as a secretary for the FBI, where she met many close friends and gained much of her business savvy.

Margie met her husband Frank in the summer of 1969 down the Jersey shore. They were married on July 23, 1972, and have lived in Scotch Plains for the past forty-five years.  Margie began her career in real estate in the early 1980’s, so that her work schedule could be flexible while she was raising her family.  Her real estate career went on to span the course of four decades.  She was passionate about her job and helped hundreds of people find their dream home through the years.  Most recently, she was the manager of Berkshire Hathaway’s Westfield office, a job that she loved and never wanted to retire from.  She was a beloved community figure in Scotch Plains and Westfield, serving on local boards and charitable organizations, mainly The Sunshine Kids, which she fundraised tirelessly for.

More than all else, Margie loved and cherished her family.  She was married to her husband Frank for forty-nine years, and was the mother of three beloved children, Frank Jr., Kelly, and Robert. She was mother-in-law to Janet and Jeana, who she treated as two more of her own and loved just as much.  Margie was also blessed with five grandchildren - Elyse (14), Nicholas (12), Olivia (12), Jonathan (12), and Bennett (1).  Margie was a constant presence in all of their lives, and could be found at baseball and football games, dance competitions, recitals, track meets, and school events every weekend.  She was also fortunate to spend time babysitting her youngest grandson Bennett this past year, who brought her so much joy.  She is lovingly known to her family as “Nana”, and she was most proud of all her children and grandchildren.  Her favorite times were spent with the entire family, usually at Sunday dinner with lots of food, wine and laughter.  Margie loved to travel, she was an “Aruba girl”, and often went with her longtime girlfriends or with their favorite couple friends.  She also enjoyed the annual family vacation to the Jersey shore, where she always loved the “golden hour” on the beach with Frank, drinks on the deck while the sun set, and a drippy butter pecan ice cream cone.

Margie will be sorely missed and joyfully remembered by all who knew her.  She will be forever loved by her surviving family members which include her husband, Frank, her son Frankie and his wife Janet of Long Valley, their children Elyse and Jonathan; her daughter Kelly of Scotch Plains and her children Nicholas and Olivia; and her son Robert and his wife Jeana, of South Plainfield, and their son Bennett.  She is predeceased by her parents, John and Dorothy Ellam of Cranford, her brother, John Ellam of Cranford, and her in-laws, Frank and Josephine Cuccaro of Warwick, NY.  She is survived by her sister, Dolores Angelbeck and her husband Bruce, her sister-in-law Kathy Carmody and her husband Greg, several nieces and nephews, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation will take place on Monday, June 6, from 4-8pm at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.  The funeral mass will be on Tuesday, June 7 at 9:30am at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains.  To honor Margie’s memory, please enjoy a Sunday dinner with those you love the most, and raise a glass to her.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Sunshine Kids in honor of Marjorie Cuccaro at www.sunshinekids.org.
