Charles Lewis Haywood Obituary

Charles Lewis Haywood was born on February 7, 1945, in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was the second child born of the union between Lewis Haywood and Frances Hayes Haywood. He spoke fondly of his humble upbringing on the farm formerly known as Ideal Holding Company. Charles graduated from Lincoln Park Academy in 1963.

On December 20, 1970, Charles married Cecelia Young in Delray Beach, FL. Their union produced three daughters: Cheryl, Caryn, and Christina.

Charles’ professional life was dedicated to law enforcement. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force. He went on to become the first Black police officer in Marietta, GA, as well as an agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Charles became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1978. He served most of his time with the FBI at headquarters in Washington, D.C. He retired in 2002 after 23 years of service.

Charles enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included woodwork, photography and playing solitaire. He referred to himself as “the tool collector.” In 2011, Charles and Cecelia were blessed with their first grandchild, Carter Kane Lewis. Charles spent quality time with Carter picking him up from school and supporting Carter’s participation in various activities.

Charles passed away peacefully on the evening of May 27, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, daughters, grandson, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
