Ella Lucille Morgan Greathouse, 93, a resident of the Elkins Rehabilitation and
Care Center, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. She had been in
declining health and was under the care of WV Caring.
She was born on August 29, 1923, in Durbin, the daughter of Charles Elmer and
Melissa Morgan and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Moore of
Durbin and Madeline Ratliff of Bethel, PA, 3 brothers, Lonnie Morgan of Durbin,
and James and Harry Morgan of Elkins.
She was married for 42 years to Ivan "John" Greathouse who preceded her in death
on March 13, 1982.
Ella was a cook for many years at Pocahontas County restaurants. She was the 1st
Green Thumb worker for the Senior Citizens in Upper Pocahontas County. She
worked as an aide for the Play Group at the Durbin Library and retired in 1994
having worked many years as an aide at the Green Bank Library. She was a
member of the Bethel United Methodist Church on Back Mountain, had been a
resident of the Elkins Manor for 15 years and a resident of the Elkins Rehabilitation
and Care Center for 3 1/2 years. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, quilting,
crocheting, working puzzles, and enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo with her
friends.
Ella had 2 children: Dale (deceased) and wife Frances (deceased) of Durbin, Donna
Hommema and husband Chuck of Elkins, 5 grandchildren - Kevin Greathouse and
wife Sharon, Carl Greathouse and wife Regina, and Donald Greathouse and wife
Wanda all of Durbin, Michele (Hommema) VanMeter and husband David of Elkins
and Brian Hommema and wife Lourie of Buckhannon; 7 great grandchildren,
Fallon Greathouse and companion Tommy Gray and Jenna and Jordan Greathouse
of Durbin, Nathan and Nicholas Cooper of Elkins, and Brady and Brycen
Hommema of Buckhannon and 1 great, great granddaughter, Sierra Cheyanne
Gray.
Ella's family will receive friends at the Bethel United Methodist Church on Back
Mountain Rd, on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 1 to 2 PM, with the funeral starting at 2 p.m., with the Pastors Allen Johnson, Harold Swecker and Carl Greathouse officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Bethel Church
