William J. Eberle

<p>William J. Eberle, 84, of Wappingers Falls, NY, died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Vassar Hospital, in Poughkeepsie. A local resident since 1962, Bill was born in Albany, NY, to the late Willian A. and Veronica Cranney Eberle. He was a graduate of the St. James School, Vincentian Institute, HVTI, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was at 31-year employee of IBM, working at both the Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill sites.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill was a ham radio operator, K2EJX, since 1953, having built his own transmitter at age 15. He was a long-time member of the Do-C-Do square dance club, the Marist Red Fox club, and Mike Arteaga’s gym. He and his family traveled extensively with a pop-up camper, visiting 48 states. He was an avid gardener, raising enough vegetables in the summer to last all winter. He also planted fruit and nut trees.</p><p><br></p><p>His most enjoyable hobby was being a DJ at radio station WVKR, Vassar College Radio. For almost 30 years, he rebroadcast the radio shows from the golden age of radio. In addition, he broadcast classic country music. He took his family to see any country performers that were appearing in the area and made several trips to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Reedy Eberle; his daughters, Christine (Carl) Lundquist of Westminster, MD, and Sharon (Joseph) Zeleznik of Poughkeepsie; and a son William of Tokyo, Japan; grandchildren Travis, Delaney, and Ainsley Lundquist, and Stephanie, Kathryn, and James Zeleznik; and a brother Frank (Mary Lee) of Milford, OH. He was predeceased by a son Stephen and a granddaughter Erin Lundquist.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to radio station WVRK, Box 726, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12604.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will take place at the Wm G. Miller FH Inc., 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Thursday, May 26, from 4PM-8PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 27, at 9:30 AM at St. Martin de Porres RC Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
