Donald W. Peek, Sr.

Donald W. Peek, Sr., 85, of Loami, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at his residence. Donald was born on October 16, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Grover Cleveland and Dollie Marie (Campbell) Peek. He married Angelene “Berniece” Goodall on June 6, 1957, at West Side Christian Church in Springfield. Donald proudly served his county in the U.S. Army and Illinois National Guard. He was a patient, caring, loving man with a heart of gold. Donald raised seven children and was faithful to the Lord’s word. He enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and spending time with his family. Donald was a proud and thoughtful man that focused on his family and the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Peek, Jr.; son-in-law, Patrick Szerletich; daughter-in-law, Renee Peek; two great-grandsons, Lucas Backstein and Cameron Mooney, Jr.; and his brothers and sisters. Donald is survived by his wife, Angelene “Berniece” Peek of Loami; children, Cheryl (Stanley) White of Coffeen, IL, Belinda Szerletich of Springfield, Brenda (Les) Wanless of Loami, Daryl (Tracie) Peek of Loami, Ronald Peek of Springfield, and Randy Peek of New Berlin; 13 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren. Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Girard Cemetery with Rev. Anthony Bliss officiating with military honors.
