Eldon Lewis Mixon, Sr.

Mr. Eldon Lewis Mixon, Sr., 83, died Sunday morning (May 22, 2022) at his residence in Ware County. He was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County. Eldon was drafted into the United States Army in 1960. He was stationed at Fort Hood, TX before being transferred to Germany. He served during the Berlin Airlift Conflict and Cuban Missile Crisis. He owned and operated Mixon Contracting and Associated Contractors, and he was a member and deacon of Rome Primitive Baptist Church. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Lewis Mixon and Betty Robinson Mixon; and his siblings, Allen Mixon, Mildred Dewberry, Doris Houser and Bobby Mixon; and a special uncle, John Mixon. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Cathy Loraine Davis Mixon of Waycross; four children, Laura Mixon Smith (Jimmy) of Waycross, Eldon Lewis Mixon, Jr. (Harriet) of Waycross, Evelyn Mixon Denton (David) of Bickley, and Cate Mixon Rocha (special son-in-law, Mauro) of Waycross; 13 grandchildren including special grandson, Trey Minix, and 10 great grandchildren; two siblings, Ellis Mixon (Joan) and Laura Courson all of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (May 25, 2022) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Manor. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
