CHARLOTTE: Bertha Mooney Ellis, 95, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Huntersville Health and Rehab. She was born in Person County, NC to the late Joseph Roscoe (Ross) Money and Lucy Oakley Mooney. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ellis is also predeceased by her husband, Lee Roy Ellis, Sr.; daughter, Diane Ellis Baker; son, Lee Roy Ellis, Jr. (Hot Rod). Mrs. Ellis was a member of Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church and she attended Berryhill Baptist Church in Charlotte North Carolina. She attended Mt. Tirzah High School. She worked at Durham County Regional Hospital now Duke Regional Hospital, as a seamiest. She enjoyed quilting, reading, working out in the yard; loving to use her riding lawn mower, and she loved to watch game shows. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Ellis, Donna Hales (Earl); son, Cecil Ellis (Anna Marie); grandchildren, Brandy Hales George (Jesse), Chad Hales (Bridget), Barry Baker, Kristie Baker Crabtree, Tracy Ellis (Jodi), Kelly Ellis (Barbara); great-grandchildren, Matthew George, Elizabeth Baker, Chase Crabtree, Justin Crabtree, Bradley Ellis and Bayleigh Ellis. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28th at Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church, 8321 Cassam Rd., Bahama, NC 27503.
