Frederick James Mallay Obituary

He fought a good fight and he finished the race…

A part of our hearts were lost to never be replaced…

but the impact he left on us will remain forever.

Passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends, Fred Mallay in his 60th year.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife Mary of 37 years;

daughter, Heather (Bastin); his beautiful granddaughter, Evalina, his pride and joy - the one that made that twinkle in his eye shine a little brighter; and his mother-in-law, Bridget Ward.

Missing him with heavy hearts are his brothers, Leon and Terry (Audrey); sisters, Margaret Ann Cleal (Al), and Rosarri Dimmer (Allen); sister-in-law, Joanne Pittman (Greg).

There are family…there are friends, and there are friends that become family; Pius and Clara Power.

Fred has touched the lives of many throughout his life and career,

and he leaves behind a large circle of family and friends.

Waiting for him with open arms are his parents, James and Bride Mallay; father-in-law, Joe Ward;

sister-in-law, Jeanette Mallay; and special nephew, Jonathan.

Fred was passionate with everything he did…

whether it was his teaching career of over 32 years, traveling to many places around the world, or doing whatever he could get his hands into - he was the jack of all trades who finished each project with perfection. His love of learning, reading and history made him the person he was.

“He was an example of kindness, nobility and morals. He will continue to live in our hearts forever.”

(Omar, a teaching colleague from Doha).

Fred fought a courageous battle and his family is forever grateful for the care he received by doctors and nurses at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center, Community Health Services, Eastern Health and the Bliss Murphy Cancer Center.

“With courage you will dare to take risks,

have the strength to be compassionate,

and the wisdom to be humble.

Courage is the foundation of integrity.”

-Mark Twain
