John D West
<p>John D. West, 76, of North Haledon, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late John Scarr West and Ellen West. After high school, John served in the United States Air Force for four years. In June of 1969, he married Joan, and they settled in North Haledon. They attended Hawthorne Gospel Church, and as firm believers in Christian education, sent their children to Hawthorne Christian Academy.</p><p><br></p><p>John had a long career working on computers as a Unix/Aix systems administrator for companies such as Univac (Sperry Corporation/Unisys), Bestfoods Baking Company (Unilever), and, at the time of his death, Mount Sinai Healthcare. John also enjoyed traveling with family, chess, ping pong, bowling, and science fiction, especially Doctor Who. A man of few words, John’s steadfast and calm demeanor and humble nature will be missed by all who knew him.</p><p><br></p><p>John was the beloved husband of Joan, loving father to Karin (William) Wehmeyer and James West, and cherished Grandad to Sarah, Anneliese and William.</p><p><br></p><p>A graveside service will be held at 11:30am, Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Road, Totowa, NJ 07512 (Section 9). Family and friends who wish to attend should meet at 11:15am at the administrative building near the entrance across from Memorial School. </p><p><br></p><p>John’s family respectfully requests any memorial donations to go to Hawthorne Christian Academy.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>Obituary
