Obituary

Helen Joyce Johnson went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2022.  She was 92.

Joyce was born in Charleston, WVa on Dec. 6, 1929.  After marriage to Robert E. Johnson, Joyce lived the life of an Air Force wife.  She loved that life, making homes in Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, California, Pennsylvania and lastly, and mostly, in San Antonio, Texas, where she spent her last fifty years.  Her Air Force life allowed her to travel to many exotic and distant lands across Europe and Asia, and she cherished the friends and memories she encountered along the way.

After retiring in San Antonio, Joyce enjoyed success as a realtor, and later a broker, for ReMax Realty.  After retiring herself, she devoted her time to her favorite pursuits, entertaining, traveling, golf and bridge.  Following the death of her husband, she moved to Independence Village, where she would spend her last twenty years, taking advantage of the many and varied activities, from duplicate bridge to Mexican train.  She  took  up ballroom dancing at age 85, becoming quite proficient, and celebrated her 90th birthday with a big dance at the Village.

Joyce was a devoted wife, a loving and supportive mother, and loved her family and friends deeply and from the heart.  She left an indelible impression on all she knew and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl E. Rollins and Bertha A. Smith, and her husband, Robert E. Johnson II.  She is survived by: sons Bob (Rhonda), Buck (Michele), and Doug; daughters Libby (Jeff) and Carolyn (John), seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one on the way.  Funeral services will be held Saturday,  June 11th at 3 pm, at  Porter Loring North Mortuary, followed by a reception at Independence Village, located at 20550 Huebner Rd.

Interment will be held at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
