Lorna Jean Petersen Obituary

Lorna Jean (McMullen) Petersen went to heaven Thursday, May 19th, 2022 at her home in Burbank, WA. She was surrounded by her family who loved her deeply. Lorna was born in Portland, OR on October 15th, 1955. She spent her early years amongst multiple generations of family in the Portland area, with her mother, Barbara, and sister, Bonnie. She later moved to Pasco, where she attended school and graduated from Pasco High in 1973. During that time, she gained a forever dad, Donald Pentecost, and four siblings; Joyce, David, James, and Donnie. After high school, she attended Columbia Basin College. At age 19, she met the love of her life, John Petersen; to whom she was happily married for 47 years. They built a life together in Burbank, WA where they farmed, raised three daughters, and poured into their church and community. Over the years, Lorna was active in Jaycees, numerous Bible studies, volunteered at her church and helped her daughters with 4-H, Farmers Market, and Girl Scouts. She kept books for the family farm and worked for the Columbia-Burbank and Kennewick School Districts. Lorna was creative and had many talents that she used to benefit others; including photography, sewing, painting, cooking, gardening, and crafting. She spent many years enjoying these hobbies with her sisters, sisters-in-law, daughters, and friends. She opened her heart to so many, hosting several family events throughout the year, including an annual Christmas morning brunch. She loved throwing tea parties and enjoying silly hats and treats with grandkids. Her family, friends, and community will truly miss her. She is survived by her husband John Petersen, daughters Katie Goldsworthy (John), Holly Bingeman (Tom), and Carinn Slavens (Jason), 14 grandchildren (Chloe, Luke, Joel, Brady, Morgan, Zechariah, Jacob, Eva, Zavion, Esther, Axton, Selah, Bowen, and Nora), her dad, Donald Pentecost, her siblings, and sister and brother in laws. She is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Pentecost. We ask that you honor her memory by gathering your friends and neighbors for crafting, painting, canning, or a tea party–as she greatly believed these made a healthy family and community. The angels celebrated her entrance to heaven on Thursday, May 19th and we will celebrate her life here on earth on Saturday, June 4th at South Hills Church, 3700 W 27th Ave, Kennewick, WA at 2 o’clock, Tea Party reception following.
