Irene Altamirano Vasquez, 89, entered into rest peacefully with the Lord on May 18, 2022. Born to Jessie and Salvador Altamirano on December 13, 1932, in Phoenix, Arizona, Irene was the eldest of 18 children. She is preceded in death by son Jesse and survived by sons, Larry Nunez (Grace), Emmanuel Nunez, daughter Grace Carrillo, son David; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; siblings Dolores Garcia, Mercedes (Mercy) Vela, Conrad Altamirano (Bobbie), Ruben Altamirano, Alicia Martinez, and many loving nieces and nephews. Irene was an active member at the Senior Services East senior center located in the Las Cuatro Milpas Barrio and was recognized by Mayor Skip Rimsza and the City of Phoenix for her volunteer efforts to organize programs for fellow seniors. A very giving and hospital person, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family in her home. While she was an excellent cook, she loved going out to eat for her favorites--Mexican and Chinese food. An avid movie buff, she enjoyed Sci-fi and action-adventure movies. Her favorite past-time at home was watching old westerns on television. A viewing will begin at 9:30am on Wednesday, May 25, with a Funeral Service to follow at 10:00am at Holy Cross Funeral Home, 9925 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85392. Committal will follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W. Thomas Rd. Avondale, 82392.
