Virginia Frye Shafer

Virginia Frye Shafer, 72, passed away from heart failure on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 5:30 a.m. with her daughter and sister by her side at Orlando Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Brewer and Sons Funeral Home located at 1018 West Ave., Clermont, Fla. 34712. A public viewing will be held from 11 a.m. - noon, followed by a burial service at Oakhill Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Clermont City Center located at 620 West Montrose Street. Virginia was born on March 30, 1950, in Clermont. She, along with her three siblings, grew up in the Central Florida town with her parents and was a cheerleader at Clermont High School. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, John Raymond Shafer, and had her first daughter, Kara, in March 1969. She had her second daughter, Dana, in December 1972. She and her family lived in several cities before settling down in Jacksonville, Fla. in the mid-80s. Virginia received her dental hygienist license and worked in the dental industry for nearly 20 years. She later moved back to the Clermont area following John’s death. During her life, Virginia enjoyed spending time with family, exploring underwater terrains, taking weekend horseback rides, vacationing at Anna Maria Island with her sisters, and living out many of her final days on the Suwannee River with her oldest daughter and her pets. Her infectious laugh and ferocious love for her family will be terribly missed. Virginia is survived by her sisters Merry and Betty June (B.J.), daughters Kara and Dana and her two grandchildren.
