Obituary

South Plainfield – Joanne H. Nuber, 91, died Monday, May 16, 2022 at home in South Plainfield.

Joanne was born in Bayonne to the late Melville and Harriet Hulse. Having grown up in the Great Depression, Joanne’s childhood was not the easiest, but she was a caring and loving daughter who was very close with her mother and her stepbrother, Thomas Wagner.

Joanne settled in South Plainfield in 1957 with her late Husband, Charles Nuber, and was so happy to settle down with him and make a home together. She went on to have three children with Charles. She loved her children, Dave, Barbara, and Paul very much and she was a dedicated mother, especially to Barb. She was no less loving or loved by her grandchildren, Danny, Katie, Eric, Kirsten, and Tim. She is survived by her two children, Barb and Paul and his wife, Mary; daughter in law, Geralyn, and her grandchildren.

Joanne was a guiding force in her family and always knew how to read family dynamics and speak to the joy everyone was feeling on special occasions. In tough times, Joanne was a voice of reason. She lifted up those around her with love and understanding. She gave advice to her children, her grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and could connect with anyone of any age.

Joanne was a clever, sharp woman who worked for years to provide for her family, first at Bell Telephone and then for many years in banking. Joanne enjoyed baking, reading, knitting, laughing and talking with her friends and family, and a good hot cup of tea or coffee, no sugar or cream. She traveled often to Cape Cod and Cape Hatteras with her family and also had a fantastic trip to Ireland with Barb and her two granddaughters.

An avid knitter with a caring heart, Joanne dedicated much of her time towards knitting hats, sweaters, and blankets for the Seamen’s Church Institute and was an active member of the Pilgrim Covenant Church of South Plainfield and later the Trinity Reformed Church of North Plainfield.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave, South Plainfield, NJ, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On Saturday, May 21, gathering for final viewing and last respects begins at 8:15 AM. All are welcome to join in funeral procession from Funeral Home to Hillside Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ for 9:00 AM Graveside Service led by Pastor Scott Harris.
