Joseph Anthony Brown III, Sonny passed away on Wednesday, November 11th at Wayne Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 1:30 3:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1000 11th Street, Goldsboro). A service celebrating Sonnys life will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bishop John W. Bass conducting. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. Sonny retired after 30 years as a teacher and coach. He served as a member of Wayne Water Districts Board, a member of the Masonic Home Lodge #613, and was an assistant Boy Scout Troop leader for many years. He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Joseph Anthony Jay and wife Jannice of Lucama, and William Gaston Bill and wife, Ashley of Summerfield. He was also survived by his mother, Ruby Barnes Brown of Fremont, two brothers, Robert Bobby Brown of Fremont, Charles Charlie Brown of Zuni, VA and two sisters, Ann Brown of Fremont and Lee (and husband, Randy) Gray, of Pikeville. Sonny was also blessed with multiple grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America, or simply take a kid fishing.
