Virginia "Ginny" Sheppard Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Sheppard, 77, of Audubon Park, NJ passed away on May 13 at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Ginny was a one-and-only. Her effortless warmth, emotional intelligence, and generosity of spirit inspired her friends and others to strive to be their better selves, while her sharp sense of humor kept them grounded. She was born in Paulsboro and graduated Bridgeton High School. Before settling into her career with NJ TRANSIT as a bus driver and supervisor, Ginny traveled and explored—working on a crab boat in Alaska and a road crew in Seattle, plus in the manufacturing and orchard industries in the Bridgeton area. She retired in 2002 so she could spend more time in Cambridge, MA. Ginny liked a serious table game of – sorta everything. Mexican Train, Scrabble, Boggle, etc., were cool, but she brought an extra dose of competitiveness to dominoes with her Philly friends. She is survived by her partner in life Connie Saems of Cambridge and Connie’s daughter Mei, who always said she called Ginny her aunt but really felt like she was her second mother. She also leaves behind her loving sister Mary Jane Catalano, her steadfast brother Frank Sheppard and sister-in-law Linda along with many nieces and nephews across three generations. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Agnes Hoffman Sheppard, and siblings John, Joseph, and Sister Virgeen (Agnes) Ganly and Ronny, Harry, and Janet Sheppard. Celebration of Life services are being held privately on Saturday, May 21. Ginny requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ginny’s passing leaves a small hole in the world where a giant once lived.
