Our beloved sister Diane Nicholls passed away unexpectedly in her sleep, on May 6, 2022 at the age of 53. She was loved by family and friends who are devastated by her sudden passing. Diane passed away in Bakersfield CA, where she had resided for the past 26 years.

Diane was born on August 14, 1968 in Northridge CA to Donald W. and Helen F. Nicholls. She was preceded in death by her parents. Diane was the 6th of eight children born to the Nicholls family.

Diane was a much loved and happy baby. She loved to play all sports as soon as she was old enough to pick up a bat or ball. Diane lived in the same home in Reseda, CA until she left for college in 1987. She played ball with siblings, neighbors, piano students waiting for lessons, anyone who was willing to lose to her enormous athletic talent.

Diane's athletic career began at Grover Cleveland High School, from which she graduated in 1986. She continued playing volleyball, softball, and basketball at Los Angeles Pierce College. After playing one year for Pierce, she received a multi-sport scholarship to Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport Connecticut.

She played 3 sports, for 4 years while earning a B.S. in Biology in 1991. During a basketball game against Keene State, on February 3, 1990, Diane broke a school record by scoring 1000 points in her career at Sacred Heart During her time at Sacred Heart, Diane was also a gifted artist. She created pencil drawings that were so detailed, they looked like a photograph.

In 1993, Diane moved to Apple Valley, CA to pursue a nursing degree at Victor Valley College. While attending nursing school full time, Diane coached the Apple Valley high school girls softball team to an undefeated season. Diane later continued her education at Vanderbilt University to earn a Mater's degree. She graduated in 2008, adding neonatal nurse practitioner to her many talents.

Diane found her calling in life working in neonatal intensive care at Kern Medical Center for 26 years. Diane also worked 12 years as a nurse practitioner. and many years as a nurse educator, baby cuddler, parent advocate, and life long friend to the many children, adults, and co-workers whose lives she impacted.

Diane loved to travel! She traveled far and wide, and had many opportunities to see new places. She was a certified scuba diver, her adventures included the Great Barrier Reef. Diane and her family camped at Carpinteria State beach and it remained her favorite for her entire life. She loved the tide pools, picking up tiny shells, and sunsets.
