Alfred A. Grosz

Alfred Grosz passed away at Valley Care and Rehab in Barnesville, MN, on May 16, 2022, at the age of 93. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Katie Grosz; and his siblings, Mary Hoffer, Violet Jesz, and Herbert Grosz. Alfred is survived by Sharon Grosz (spouse), Scott Grosz (son), Stacy Grosz (son) and Ardella McCloud (sister.) Alfred was born on June 9, 1928, on a farm northwest of McClusky, ND, in Sheridan County. He attended Harris Township rural school through the 8th grade and worked on the family farm until drafted by the Army in January 1951. Alfred returned to the family farm after he was honorably discharged due to a medical disability in December 1951. Alfred married Sharon Melom on May 28, 1958, where they started their lives together in McClusky. In the fall of 1958, they moved to Minot, ND, where Alfred was employed at Minot Livestock and Sales for four years. In 1962, Alfred became employed at Kedney Moving and Storage until he retired in 1990. In retirement, he continued to work part time at Minot Tarp and Sales for a few years and then mowing and caring for the lawn at First Assembly of God, and doing his lawn mowing service. In 2018, Alfred and Sharon moved to Fargo, ND, to be closer to Stacy’s family. Alfred enjoyed working hard and long hours, cutting wood for the fireplace, serving and helping others, listening and dancing to old-fashioned polkas and waltzes, going fishing and watching baseball and playing baseball with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed doing projects around the house, especially with his sons and his siblings. Family was important to Alfred. He will be missed by Sharon. He will be missed by Scott and Millicent, and their children: Nathan, Nicholas (son) and Kaitlyn, Christina (daughter) and Matthew Meldrum, and Steven. Alfred will be missed by Stacy and Charlene and their children: Katherine (daughter) and Joshua Briese, Jacob (son) and Hailey, Alison (daughter) and Derek Knapper. Alfred has seven great-grandchildren: Joanna, Elisabeth, and Britta, daughters of Katherine and Joshua Briese, Philip and Lucas, sons of Jacob and Hailey Grosz, Eli and Mason, sons of Nick and Kaitlyn Grosz. Alfred left a wonderful legacy for his family. He taught us to work hard for the things in life, take pride in what you do, always give your best and never give up. Most importantly, have a big heart to help and serve especially the Lord and his church, family, and neighbors. A memorial service for Alfred will be Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 2 PM in Southside Church of the Nazarene, 2220 24th Ave. SE, Minot, ND, 58701. Fellowship and sandwiches will follow. Alfred’s wishes were to be cremated, and his final resting place will be Rose Hill Cemetery, Minot, ND.
