Marjorie D. "Peggy" Swearingen

Marjorie Doris “Peggy” Swearingen, 92, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Sunday morning, May 15, 2022, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland. Private Cremation Rites will be held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove. Peggy was born October 4, 1929, in San Bernardino, California, the daughter of Raymond Delmont and Wanita (Ross) Delmont. She was raised with her two brothers, James and Jerry Delmont, in Highgrove, California. Here she also received her education. She was united in marriage to Wesley Lloyd Moore on September 16, 1944. Following their marriage, they served as traveling evangelists, touring the country and performing music with their six children (listed below,) until 1978, when they settled in the Salem area. Peggy enjoyed sewing and was an excellent cook. She was a talented musician and taught all of her children to play instruments. She wrote songs and poetry, and was an organist in several churches they served in. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, on September 12, 1996, after over fifty-two years of marriage together. On February 14, 1998, she was united in marriage to Elbert L. “Sonny” Swearingen. Following their marriage, they resided in the Aumsville community. They loved to travel together, taking thirteen cruises to Alaska together with their friends and family. Peggy loved her children and grandchildren deeply, and often used her skills in cooking to host homemade holiday dinners in her house. In summer, she and Sonny often prepared family barbecues together. Peggy was preceded in death by Sonny, on April 5, 2017, after celebrating over nineteen years of marriage together. Peggy was also preceded in death by her parents two brothers. She is survived by six children and their spouses: Sharon and Pastor Darrell Roberts, of Forest Grove, Oregon; John and Suzanne Moore, of Grants Pass, Oregon; David and Sylvia Moore, of Lipan, Texas; Steven and Tammy Moore, of Salem, Oregon; Peggy and Mitch Busby, of Aumsville, Oregon and Priscilla and Jerry Stutrud, of Aumsville, Oregon. Also surviving are her seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
