Maurice Clayton Ramos

On March 23, 1963, Maurice Clayton Ramos made his debut to two wonderful parents, Federico and Rebecca (Hunter) Ramos at the Chanute AFB Hospital in Rantoul, IL. He was greeted by his siblings Monnie C. Ramos, Maria Ramos, Manuel Ramos, Martin Ramos, and Federico “Kookie” Ramos II. In August of 1966, he was followed by a baby brother, Mateo Ramos, who was called to Heaven at the age of three months. Federico Ramos had his last duty stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD between the summers of 1964-1966. <br><br>After he retired in 1966, the family moved into the North Rapid City area. Maurice then attended General Beadle Elementary, North Junior High, and graduated from Rapid City Central High School. After graduating, he attended several college classes in Hospitality at National College of Business in Rapid City. <br><br>He was a server at the Ruby House in Keystone and many other small cafés and restaurants in the Keystone and Rapid City area. He also handled logistics at both GFG Foods Supply and Amcon Distributing Company organizing delivery routes for drivers. He took pride in working for the Special Diabetes Program for Indians at Sioux San as a clerical assistant and other odd jobs at Okiciyapi Wellness Center for two years working with the Native American community. His last jobs were working at Herberger’s and Kohl’s as a cashier. His easygoing demeanor and positive energy made him shine in customer service. Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse and he became unable to work a full-time position.<br><br>He had complications with Diabetes and started dialysis in 2020. He never let it stop him from doing what he loved. When he felt well enough, he enjoyed going to movies, cruising around in ‘Bullet’ (a silver pickup), and shopping. On his shopping trips, he loved finding good bargains not only for himself, but for everyone in his family. His heart was filled with overwhelming generosity for those dear to him.<br><br>In 2016, Maurice was discharged from Regional Hospital after having surgery on his foot from the complications of diabetes. His sister, Maria, offered her home to her brother to help him get better and he lived with her until the day he passed away. He was always grateful for his sister, niece, and great-nieces because they helped him when it was needed. Maurice and Maria’s bond was always so “tight” even though they fussed and fought about his health issues, as brothers and sisters often do. He was always thankful for her welcoming him into her home and taking care of him for as long as she did.<br><br>Just when anyone would feel they have all the time in the world, God had a different plan for him. He was admitted into Monument Hospital where he was taken into the Intensive Care Unit. On May 14th, 2022, He decided it was time to leave this world to join his parents, family, and friends in the spirit world. He will be truly missed by family and friends. He always had a good heart and sense of humor. He would never want anyone to feel sad and feel sorry for him, but to always remember all the good times and memories he had with everyone he encountered. Adios, Bughead! Vaya con Dios, Maurice! (Goodbye, Bughead! Go with God, Maurice!)<br><br>Maurice is survived by his siblings, Monnie C. Ramos, Manuel Ramos, Federico “Kookie” (Toni) Ramos of Rapid City, SD, Martin L. Ramos of Seattle, WA; and Maria C. Ramos; niece, Rebecca LaBelle of Rapid City, SD; and great nieces, Celeste Myers and Cherish Schimdt of Rapid City, SD.<br><br>Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca (Hunter) Ramos and Federico Ramos; baby brother, Mateo Ramos; paternal grandparents, Mateo & Maria (Rodriguez) Ramos; maternal grandparents, Stephan & Maggie (Gibbons) Hunter; paternal uncles, Amador (Sara) Ramos, Dionicio “Danny” (Stella) Ramos, and Matilde Ramos; maternal aunts and uncles, Len (Elvira) Hunter, Colleen (Harvey) Zephier, Al (Ethlyn) Hunter, Caroline “Dallas” “Sissy” (Fred) Claussen, Ambrose (Blonde) Hunter, Harland (Babe) Hunter, Sidney (Caroline) Hunter, Patricia “Patsy” Jackson, and John Hunter, Jr.; and cousins from the Ramos families, Hunter families, and Jackson family.<br><br>Pallbearers will be Monnie C. Ramos, Manuel I. Ramos, Federico “Kookie” Ramos, Martin L.
