DJ Mays Obituary

DJ Mays son of Gill Finn and Nellie (Worley) Mays, was born on July 9th, 1936 in Hungry Mountain Oklahoma.  He departed this life on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at his home in Greasy OK, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 7days.

 

DJ was a lifelong educator, he graduated from NSU with his masters in 1957. He taught at Greasy and Bell for 32 years total. He taught English, and he Coached Boys athletics. He retired from education in 1989. He inspired many students throughout his career and truly made an impact in their lives.

 

DJ married Nelma Jean Denny, the love of his life on August 27th, 1957.  With this blessed union was one son Terry Mays.  DJ loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ in his heart and faithfully attended South Greasy Church for many years.  Later in his life he also attended Chuculate Baptist Church.

 

From an early age, DJ had a love for animals and ranching.  He started his love of ranching with horses and cattle.  He loved to ride his horses, check cattle, and bale hay. Eventually with the help of his wife Nelma, they were able to farm and ranch throughout their life. They enjoyed watching their hard work prosper. 

 

He loved seeing his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren succeed at all the things that he loved: feeding cows, riding horses, ranching and spending time with MeMa. He also loved going to Church and hearing his son Terry preach. One of his favorite things to do was to check cows with his dogs.

 

DJ was preceded in death by his parents; Gill Fin and Nellie (Worley) Mays. His wife Nelma (Denny) Mays.

 

He is survived by a loving family. They include his son Terry and wife Diane Mays of Stilwell, OK.   His grandchildren; Tabitha and James Braden of Westville OK. Troy and Kendra Mays, Mary Beth and Bryson Paden all of Stilwell Ok. His Great grandkids; Denton Braden and Denver Bruner, Kenlea and Trevor Mays, Madison, Zaiven, Carter, and Darcy Paden. One sister Faynell Mills, one niece Crystal Morton-Smith, two brother in laws Larry Udell Denny and wife Carolyn Denny, Ronnie and wife Nadine Denny all of Stilwell Ok. Special friends Kay Brown, and Hank Brown and other relatives and many friends also survive him. He was loved by so many.
