Ona Lorene (Myers) Hunter was born on November 15, 1937 in Kingman, AZ to Harry Victor Myers and Ethel C. Helmer (Combs) Myers. Ona spent the majority of her childhood in the Kiowa, KS area and graduated with the class of 1956 from Kiowa High School. On November 16 of that year, one day after her 19th birthday, she married Clifford L. Hunter at the First Christian Church in Kiowa. Clifford and Ona spent their early years in Wichita, KS, Chloride, AZ, and Las Vegas, NV. They eventually came back to Kansas and settled in Hazelton.

Ona accepted Christ as her Saviour on June 21, 1961. She had a life-long ministry of encouragement by sending cards and was a diligent prayer warrior for family and missionaries. She also served as Sunday school teacher for many years.

When her youngest child, Meredith, started school, Ona began working at the Kiowa District Hospital. She worked there for 37 years, mostly as a CNA, but also in the housekeeping department. Clifford and Ona moved to South Dakota in 2016 to be closer to family.

Ona is survived by Clifford, her husband of 65 years; her son, Mitch (Lou) Hunter of Idabel, OK, daughter, Mica (Brian) Balster of Platte, SD, son, Milford (Pennie) Hunter of Pontiac, IL and daughter-in-law, Mira Hunter of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren: Steve Martin and Lisa Martin of OK, Kristal Balster, Kim (Todd) Veal, Karen Balster, Kathy (Ross) Erickson of SD, Justin (Thesalee) Hunter, Matt (Alexandra) Hunter of IL and Cassie (Jacob) Chopp of MN; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews and two that we class as sibling-cousins, Rafer Onwiler and Julie (Randy) Conrad of KS.
