Mildred, or as she was known to many as Granny, was born March 23, 1928 to J. Jalmar and Lillie (Bell) Harmala in Roberts , MT and passed away May 14, 2022. She attended Cottonwood Grade School and graduated from Roberts High School in May of 1944. She moved to Billings that June and worked for Consolidated Freightways and Farmer’s Union. She met the love of her life, Arnold Alt, in June of 1946 and they were married on February 9, 1947. In December of that year they moved to the Alt Ranch north of Roundup, which they later purchased. Their daughter, Diane, was born during their time on the ranch. They enjoyed ranch life working together until Arnold’s death in December of 1971. During her years on the ranch she enjoyed sewing, leathercraft, canning fruit and homemade mincemeat. Mildred moved to Roundup after Arnold’s death, went to tax school and worked at the Insurance Center. In October of 1974 she married George (Judd) Swanson. Together they enjoyed bowling, camping and fishing. Judd passed away in March of 1995. She was truly proud of her family and found her greatest joy in family gatherings and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren in school sports, 4-H activities, and dance recitals. Mildred was an avid bowler, holding many league offices, attending state tournament as well as several national tournaments. She enjoyed dancing, especially the western jam sessions. She was active in RSVP since 1995 delivering meals and doing other volunteer work. Other activities she enjoyed included her pinochle club, reading, doing her daily crossword puzzles and her “coffee time” with family and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, her brothers Walter, Emil, and Arnold, her grandson Brian, her special friend and step sister Martina Crawford, and her sister-in-law, Grace Jarvi. She is survived by her daughter Diane and Gary Wacker, her grandsons Darrel and Linda Wacker, Duane and Julie Wacker, granddaughter-in-law Greta and Tom DeTonancour. Great grandchildren Amanda and Steven Happel, Jessica and Emmett Wester, Rebecca and Sean Barbula, Kacie Wacker, Sid and Jenna Wacker along with great-great grandchildren Brian and Zoey Wester and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 319 1st St. West, Roundup, MT on Friday, May 20 at 11:00 with a lunch following the committal at the Roundup City Cemetery.
