Rita F. McKeon age 89 of Darlington, WI passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022 at SSM - The Monroe Hospice Home in Monroe, WI. She was born March 17, 1933 in Grant County, WI, the daughter of Adolph and Anna (Averkamp) Salzmann. Rita graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, IA. She was united in marriage to Edward McKeon on January 26, 1954 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville, WI. They lived and farmed in Lafayette County from 1954 until 1970. She then worked at Micro Switch in Warren, IL, for 22 and a half years, retiring in 1995. Rita is survived by her children: Greg (Janet) McKeon of Mineral Point, WI, Brian (Tanna) McKeon of Monroe, WI, and John (Shelly) McKeon of DeKalb, IL; her son-in-law: David Brick of Dodgeville, WI; seven grandchildren: Mathew (Stephanie) McKeon, Kelly McKeon-Krober, Justin (Zia Brucaya) McKeon, Jordan (Kelly) Brick, Logan (Rachel Dubbink) Brick, Travis McKeon, and Kasidi McKeon-Dorland; seven great-grandchildren: Lauryn, Addison, and Hadley Krober, Reagan and Hayes Brick, Jameson and Levi Dorland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward in 2020; one daughter: Madonna Brick in 2021; one great-granddaughter: Madisyn McKeon in 2015; three brothers: Joseph (Lillian) Salzmann, Father Edmund Salzmann, and John (Mary) Salzmann; four sisters: Sister Clara Salzmann, Marian (Irvin) Lange, Catherine (Arnold) Lange, and Helena (William) Lawinger. Rita was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women, and its Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member and past treasurer of the Bates-O’Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214 Auxiliary. Rita loved spending time with her family, going out to eat with her friends, and working with her flowers and shrubs. Rita and Edward loved to travel – especially the trips they took to Alaska and Ireland. She cherished the time she spent with her family creating memories they will all remember forever. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington) with Fr. Luke Syse officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Park Place, Darlington) with a rosary being prayed at 4:30 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
