Robert "Bob" E. Bennett Obituary

Bob was born in Detroit and grew up in Southfield. After attending college for two years, Bob was drafted by the United States Army in 1965 and served proudly in the Vietnam War. During his war tour, he won an award for writing and composing the theme song of the Red Warriors Battalion. Bob always had a love for music. Almost as much as much as the love he had for his beloved wife, Rita. Bob and Rita met at a mutual friends’ anniversary party in 1967, and their love story began. On their first date, they went to Kensington Park and Bob played guitar for Rita. Bob and Rita married in 1969 and began their family with the birth of Robert John Bennett (Rob) in 1972 and then Ryan Ellis Bennett in 1977. Bob and Rita moved to the Milford area in 1973, and both children attended and graduated from the Hartland School District. Bob worked at Firestone Tire Company for many years and eventually worked hard to become the Plant Manager of an auto supplier in Brighton. Bob and Rita were very active in their community; Bob even served as president of the Milford Jaycees for several years. Bob not only loved his community, he was a major hockey enthusiast. He played and coached hockey, and even skated once with the late great Gordie Howe. Bob will always be remembered for kindness, his gentleness, and the never-ending love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed, but forever in our hearts. Bob is survived by his sons, Rob (Lorie) and Ryan Bennett (Laura Gosa); grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Nevaeh, Ryder, Ben and Mallory; brother, Tom Bennett; niece, Jessica (Mike) Hagan; great niece, Della Hagan; extended family members and many dear friends. Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Rita Bennett. Funeral Service from Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday, May 19th at 2 PM. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
