Margaret Ann Hellmann

Hellmann, Margaret Ann Margaret Ann Hellman, 75, of Denver, Colorado, passed away in her home on May 12, 2022 following an extended illness. Margaret was born on March 18,1947 in Meriden, Connecticut, but her family moved to Westbury, Long Island, New York while she was still a baby. She grew up in Westbury. attending High School with a year at the Interlochen Arts Academy. She received her Bachelors Degree at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Shortly after graduating she moved to Colorado where she had attended a summer session at CU in Boulder and decided was the place for her. Margaret started her life in Colorado as a counselor at the YWCA in downtown Denver. She obtained a teaching certificate, attending classes at Metro State. Later she got a job at the Colorado Department of Agriculture Laboratory in Denver where she worked for more than ten years. During that time she earned a Masters Degree. Wanting more challenges, Margaret left the Laboratory to obtain her PhD at Colorado State University in Environmental Health in 1985. She then worked as a consultant, assessing risks at hazardous waste sites. Margaret retired in 1990, after getting married. She then began working on her and her husbands genealogy, and discovered a new hobby which kept her interest the rest of her life. After doing the family genealogy, she solicited friends to help them with their genealogies, telling the family histories as human stories and not just as birth death and marriage dates. She also incorporated genealogy into her travels with her husband, meeting newly discovered relatives in distant places like Australia, England and Europe. Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Reinhard Hellmann, her mother Ruth Lucile (Payne) Hellmann. and her brother Bruce P. Hellmann. She is survived by her husband Dale Wells. Her nephew Theodore Hellmann, her niece Gwendolyn Hellmann and her sister in law Elizabeth Hellmann. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 23 at 1:00 PM, at Fairmont Cemetery. 430 South Quebec Street, Denver, CO 80247.
