Obituary

Ronald (Ron) E. Everitt, age 87, born September 26, 1934, to Emmitt (Ted) and Mary (Teegardin) Everitt, went to be with the Lord on Saturday May 14, 2022 at Blanchard Valley Hospital.  Ron was born and raised in Putnam County and was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School.  He retired after 32 years at Dana Corporation.  Ron and Doris attended Lima Baptist Temple since 1970 where they put their faith in Christ as their Savior.

Ron is survived by his “Sweetheart”, wife Doris (Cartwright) of nearly 65 years; his children: Susan (Chris) Link, John (Melissa) Everitt, and Lois (Dean) Alt; his grandchildren: Alex (Justeen), Noah, Alia, and Gabriella Link, Spencer and Zane Everitt, Elizabeth (Spencer) Dorhout, Emily (fiancé Cort Speckman) and Elisa Alt; great-grandchildren: baby boy Link (September 2022), Matthias and Sterling Everitt.

His siblings are twins: Paula (Ron) Basinger and Paul Everitt; adopted brother: Leonard (Charlotte) Heffner (both deceased); siblings by marriage: Tom (deceased) and Marlene Cartwright, David (deceased) and Shirley Cartwright, Virginia and Jack Teegardin, Frank and Carol Cartwright, Gale and Sue Cartwright. His long time neighbor, whom was like a brother also survives him: James “Bob” Butcher.

Ron was a lover of nature and his favorite place was in the woods.  He enjoyed organic gardening long before it was popular and he hunted anything from mushrooms to antelope. Boating and fishing were also some of his favorite pastimes.

He loved riding wild horses, driving fast cars/motorcycles and went to state in the 400m relay.  He dove off the Berlin Olympic high dive platform while serving his country in the US Army.  His nickname in High School was Rip.  We do not wonder why.

He had a good singing voice and could make up a jingle for anything.  Ron and Doris were light on their feet and enjoyed dancing - surprising us every time.

Generosity of time, love and money was in his DNA.  He carried 50s and 100s in his wallet in case he found someone in need.  Many times these were his daughters and grandchildren.

He was a family man and never missed an opportunity to tell you about his children and grandchildren.  Sharing and speaking his mind came easy.  He was good at telling you what to do and how to do it.

He had an engineering mind.  He added wheels, handles, springs, duct tape, and caulk to make almost anything work “better”.

A funeral service will be held at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 11:00am.  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 3-5:00pm and 6-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the funeral home and donated to Teens for Christ, The American Cancer Society, and Hospice.
