Willis Keith Craycraft Obituary

Willis Keith Craycraft, 70, of New Martinsville, WV died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 13, 2022.

Keith was born July 31, 1951 in Ashland, KY son of the late Willis C. and Mary Margaret (Bunch) Craycraft.

Keith was a professional bowler, owner-operator Bruce Bowling Lanes in New Martinsville, WV for nearly fifty years. He bowled on the Professional Bowling Tour from 1972-1982 and appeared on five PBA-style television shows with one second place finish, two thirds and two fifth places. He appeared on ABC’s Saturday “Wide World of Sports.” He won six state championships including two in the doubles category with older brother Mike. A competitive bowler for thirty-seven years, he recorded sixteen perfect 300 games and four 800 series scores with a high season average of 233 and a high 837 series.

He won a PBA Regional event in Sandusky, Ohio, singles and doubles titles in Hershey, PA, eight state Moose titles and numerous New Martinsville Local Association crowns. Keith was inducted into the WV State Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1996 and was the second person inducted into the Wetzel County Hall of Fame in 2016. Former West Virginia University Coach Bill Stewart was the first honoree. He also was honored in 2005 with a Magnolia High School Life Achievement award. Keith was loved dearly by his family and friends. He loved to golf and was a diehard fan of the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and Mountaineers. Keith was involved in the New Martinsville Rotary and fundraising events and helped start the Memorial golf tournament for his friend Buddy Light which helps raise money for scholarships and community projects. He also began an annual Triathlon event which consisted of golf, bowling, and horseshoes. Many of Keith's friends and family participated in this event annually.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings.

Surviving are his brother, Mike (Pat) Craycraft of New Martinsville, WV; sister, Debbie Meredith of Interlachen, FL; niece and nephews, Tony (Stephanie) Craycraft of Alabaster, AL, Joe (Marsha) Craycraft of Wheeling, WV and Derek Meredith Huntington, WV; great nieces and nephews, Laikyn, Emma, Brady, Hayden, Sarah and Cooper.

Friends received 2-8 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, friends also received from noon until time of service 2 p.m. at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Burial to follow in Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV.
