Patrick Cunnane Obituary

Patrick Cunnane of Yorktown Heights passed peacefully at his home on May 14th, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was 94 years old. He is predeceased by his wife Agnes and his son Patrick Joseph. Deeply regretted by his daughters Mary and Patricia, son-in-law Daniel, his younger sister Margaret, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Patrick was born in Aghamore, County Mayo, Ireland. Growing up he worked in the fields of Ireland and for a time he worked in England. He arrived in New York City in 1948 and lived with his uncle in the Bronx.

Patrick proudly served in the Army, 2nd U.S. Infantry Division, 38th Regiment, Company C. He was a Korean war veteran and fought bravely in the battles of Old Baldy and Tbone Hill. He was very proud to have served and fought for his country.

While he was in the Army, he met his future wife Agnes at a dance in NYC. They married in 1952, and had three children. When he returned from the Korean war, he worked for New York Telephone Company and later, in construction in the Mason Tenders Union.

He enjoyed his vegetable garden, traveling, especially to Ireland, and spending time in their Florida home. Patrick loved children and animals. He always told stories and tall tales to his nieces and nephews. He and Agnes would always rescue dogs and cats from the NYC streets. He loved having them around to keep him company.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Veterans Administration and the Comfort Keeper aides for their care and support to our father over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a US Veterans non-profit organization of your choice.
