Ronald "Ron" Russell

Ronald Russell, 62, of Hazard died Friday, May 13, 2022 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Ravenna United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeff Zinnel will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery west of Ravenna. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Online condolences can be directed to www.rasmussenfh.com. Ron Russell was born March 16, 1960 in Grand Island, NE to Leonard and Alvada (Keldsen) Russell. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Hazard. He graduated from Ravenna High School and operated a dairy and crop farm. He continued farming and raising cattle throughout his life. He was united in marriage to JoEllen Matejka on June 12, 1982 at Ravenna United Methodist Church. After which the couple lived in his childhood home. He enjoyed morning coffee with the local farmers, fishing trips to Alliance and Kansas, coyote hunting, and tractor pulls. Ron was known to many for his sweetcorn that he gave away every year. His grandchildren will cherish the memories on the farm of tractor and four-wheeler rides, hand feeding cows, and prairie dog hunting. He taught them how to fish and drive the boat. He built an operational replica of an international tractor that his grandchildren will enjoy for years to come. Survivors include his wife JoEllen, sons Andrew (Tiffany) Russell of Overland Park, KS and Daniel (Anna) Russell of Holdrege, his grandchildren Jaiden, Alexander, Nathan, Joseph, and Elijah, his brother Lonnie (Marty) Russell of Hazard and sister Connie Hyde of Hastings, and a host of nephews, nieces, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Alvada Russell and brother Lyle Russell. Memorials are suggested to Morrison Cancer Center, Hastings.
