M. Charles Innis Obituary

M. Charles Innis Chuck struggled with kidney disease and COPD for many years until he peacefully succumbed on May 13, 2022. He was born in Jersey City, NJ on May 2, 1932. Chuck just made it to his 90th birthday with all his family around him. He so wanted to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary but missed it by only a few weeks. Having enlisted in the military at age 19, he was one of an elite few chosen to become the bodyguard of the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, in France, post WWII. He went on to become the head of police intelligence in Hawaii with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). His 13-year military career culminated with teaching ROTC at Middlebury College in Vermont. Chuck received the Army Commendation Medal among numerous other recognitions. He loved sharing stories with family and friends of his adventures. After leaving the military, Chuck made his home in Vermont and went to work in the printing industry for the Vermont Printing Company. Several years later, he was recruited by the former Caxton Press, a high-end printer, in Canton, Ohio as its Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Responding to his natural entrepreneurial skill and innovative mind, he founded ad agency, Innis Maggiore Group in 1974. Chuck embraced technology early on and instilled this in the culture which has enabled the agency to adapt to the continuous change. Chuck supported the ad industry and received numerous recognitions including the Ad Person of the Year in 2003 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Advertising Federation of America. He was a man of faith and integrity and was generous with his time, spirit, and resources to many causes. He honored his family, the military, and his country. Chuck was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lindsay Maggiore. Survivors include his devoted wife, Dolores “Dee” Maggiore Innis; son Bill Innis (Tina) and stepsons John Maggiore (Debbie), and Dick Maggiore (Kathi); grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Ana (Matthew), Nathan, Peter, and Julianna; great grandchildren, Jade, Madison, Kiley, Ayden, and Maya. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on May 28, 2022, at 10:30 am at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. In lieu of flowers, per Chuck’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica, 627 McKinley Ave NW, Canton, OH 44703.
